My work is really a marriage of traditional approaches to art and the random effects that occur when fiber is felted. I approach my art much as a painter would except that I am using fibers to create the image. I use wool, silks and other fibers to paint a picture. The fibers are then felted together using ancient wet felting techniques.
After retiring early from my career in the insurance industry, I started knitting as a hobby and then discovered felting. Initially, I was knitting purses and using a washing maching to felt the wool. After making more than a 200 purses, I was ready to move on.
A LITTLE ABOUT MY PROCESS
I say that I use wool fibers to paint. Wet felting, needle felting and stitching are processes for bonding the fibers together and adding detail.
